Movado Kingmatic Sub-Sea HS360
Why We Love It
It doesn’t get more ‘mod’ than this. This Movado Kingmatic’s distinct fileted square case with its polished finish is reminiscent of the Space Age time it was born in. It has a rather humble silver dial that’s punctuated by an orange second-hand. It’s an overall refined watch as it allows for a few design moves to be truly foregrounded. Although vintage, its simplicity is refreshing in today’s day and age.
About the Brand
In 1881, Achilles Ditesheim founded the watch brand Movado, a word in Esperanto that means “always in motion”. After opening up shop in La Chaux-de-Fonds, his brothers, Leopold and Isidore, would join him in 1886. Together, they’d build a vertically integrated company that produced some of the finest timepieces of the 20th century. They produced some of their finest pieces when they joined forces with Zenith in the 1960s. While the bolstered resources allowed them to produce even higher quality watches, it allowed the Movado brand to keep on creating designs with their distinct set of design principles that were carried across from their time-only pieces to their complicated chronographs.
